Enjoy an extravaganza of Norfolk’s secret delights on John’s happy hunting ground!

Norfolk Estate Lake Fishing

Our summer courses in beautiful North Norfolk are very popular, rightly so.

John has fished Norfolk since childhood. He has access to some of the most wonderful stretches of river, and the most beautiful lakes in the county, mostly privately owned. Recent catches include tench to double figures, carp to forty pounds, pike of over 30, big perch, sea bass in summer, nice trout fishing.

Norfolk estates are the essence of English countryside - and each is a quiet haven of hidden lakes and wide grasslands with carefully placed 400 year-old oak trees. All within easy reach of London. You will marvel at awesomely beautiful Estate Lakes - private, beautiful, filled with wild carp, tench and rudd. Big, big fish - certainly over forty pounds. Almost under your rod tip. You hardly dare breathe! This is a stunningly beautiful, crystal-clear estate lake where you will see shoals of tench way above seven pounds in weight gliding at your very feet and extraordinary Pike fishing in winter. Tench were John Bailey's favourite fish for years; he was brought up on them as a lad here in Norfolk, cycling from one estate lake to another. That doesn't always mean it's easy: these fish have hardly ever been tackled before and we might have to use natural baits like lobworm or maggot until they get used to recognising corn, say, as food. If you dream to fish for unmarked tench in a beautiful place with traditional methods, this would be the course for you.

North Norfolk in the summer is one of the great experiences for the all-round angler who appreciates beauty, serenity and the most virgin of fish.

You can enjoy fabulous, private stretches of the River Wensum, almost as they were thirty years ago in the river’s heyday, with big stocks of chub to six pounds, some massive roach still and occasional giant pike. You can float fish, maybe take your chance with very big - to more than fifteen pounds- wandering barbel.

Idyllic lakes with comparatively easy to catch carp up to the low twenties. Big perch here, too! Or even some trout fishing next door - pristine rainbows or wild river browns. Not to mention the possibility of massive summer pike on surface popping lures. If time, tide and weather are all favourable then you might walk the lonely, north coastline with a light rod, spinner and a pair of binoculars, searching the prolific shoals of bass. An eight or nine pounder is spectacular - but at four and five pounds average they fight like little tigers on light gear. And if the weather suits, they're catchable on a fly rod.

What can Angling Travel offer you here?

The key factor is John's experience: he's fished all these waters for nigh on half a century and he knows exactly where to go on the day according to the conditions. Sometimes he'll suggest a lake in the morning for tench and then you'll ten miles through beautiful Norfolk countryside to a rudd paradise. Or perhaps you will catch the evening tide for a final crack at the bass. Or perhaps if it's the coast you fancy, taking a boat out for bass, mullet and sea trout all day.

We have access to many secret fishing locations the public can never hope to fish We can offer you characterful hotels, and excellent food, for cosy laughter-filled evenings. These are expeditions that ask for your flexibility: you might have your bait next to a thirty-five pound mirror carp in a crystal clear lake one second or a four pound mullet the next. Perhaps you’ll do some float fishing, perhaps some Czech nymphing for a shoal of enormous dace.

“the fishing was great…the largely unspoilt stretches we explored were truly magnificent…excellent accommodation”  Peter Garrett, Tollesbury

“A fantastic weekend” Alex Whitelaw, Aston

Thank you for the pleasure of your company on…that magical estate…many thanks for a great adventure and I hope I'll see you again.” John Gilman, High Peak

the journey, or quest as you called it was a great one as this is where I learned some very important river craft from great company. As I said to my daughter it not about catching the fish but the journey that you take while trying to achieve that goal & although on this occasion I was unsuccessful in catching a large Roach I still caught a number of other smaller fish,Roach,Chub & Dace which are all PB for me on a river. On this special quest I could not have had a better guide you are a true gentlemen & I could have spent hours just taking to you about fishing, the environment & a world of other subjects, the only negative thing I can say about my days fishing with you is that it went too quickly. I hope I get a chance to come back. I will bring my daughter on a new quest. Thanks again for a great day, one I will always remember’  Stewart

“Pretty fantastic …….i loved the accommodation and thought the place we fished was magical. Narnia... I loved the company and hope I wasn’t too much of a novice’ Kate Bruckshaw, Manchester

“Thank you to you & John for a great weekend ! Keep me posted on any other trips you are running” Andy Sale, Kingswood
